It is almost Fall and my only child has started kindergarten today. It is bitter sweet for me. As a mom, I am proud that my 5 year old can count to 100, tell time and read short sentences. I am glad to see her excited to go to school, though nervous because I am a stay at home mom so her and I are accustomed to spending A LOT of time together. I am proud that she has been showing signs of independence and if you knew her you would see that she is clearly ready for kindergarten……or college.
We all make plans for our lives, then we all usually get the reality check that our plans don’t quite go the way we had hoped. Not saying that is good or bad but it’s almost always DIFFERENT then what we planned. My life plans are no exception, I am finding myself at loose ends as I now have a 7 hour block of time which I am not having to prepare meals, snacks, more meals, more snacks, pick up toys, clean up messes, answering the same question 20 times or listening to her tell the same story which seems to never end. Parenting is amazing but its also at times exhausting, this goes for us stay at home parents as well as work outside the home parents. Then one day we find ourselves with school aged kids, those days when we would lock ourselves in the bathroom to have a few minutes of quiet (this for parents of kids over the age of 3 because that seems to be when you finally get the luxury to go potty alone) are over. We have a quiet house, maybe even a tidy house! Suddenly this tired mama aches for the chance to be up all night with a hungry newborn with that newborn cry, to watch her 1 year old take her first steps. We spend 5 years up all day and night, forgetting to put eye shadow on one of our eyes because we are so tired, then when our kids finally start school we have no idea what to do with ourselves!
So this is my new chapter in life, the famous “life plan” didn’t pan out as planned, so to fill my time I am going to rekindle pre-motherhood hobbies. I am an artist, gardener and writer at heart, I have just opened an Etsy shop (www.etsy.com/shop/sunflowerhillart) I am also on Instagram (@sunflowerhillart). Disclaimer: My best friend Heather runs my Instagram…I am not social media savvy…don’t believe me? ASK HEATHER! 🙂 I am also working on writing children’s books with my mom illustrating them for me. I have just started up with all of this so bare with me as I learn the ropes of everything!
The goal of my blog is to talk about all kinds of stuff, art, gardening, and many other topics. I hope to be an inspiration and offer encouragement and hope to all of you! My blogs will always be written with kindness and under the motto “if you can’t say something nice then don’t say anything at all”. I hope to adjust to this new chapter and have fun sharing it with you!
